The Hopkins River begins as small tributaries between the Grampians and Pyrenees ranges. The river winds 271 kilometres through the basalt plains of Western Victoria to the Southern Ocean near Warrnambool.
The Hopkins River plays an important role for biodiversity. The river provides habitat for species like platypus, Australian grayling, and short-finned eel.
